The Nevada County Italian Festival is back! It takes place this Saturday and Sunday September 14th and 15th.
Poised amongst the bucolic splendor of the 87 acre Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley, visitors of the festival will find no shortage of fun activities, fine wines, and gourmet foods. Run by a volunteer staff, the Italian Festival organizers’ goal is to share the three thousand year old culture and traditions of the Italian peninsula with the residents of Nevada County.
The Nevada County Italian Festival will feature over 20 of the finest Italian food, wine and artisan vendors from the area. Here you'll be able to sample and buy a variety of delicious goods including fresh pizza and pasta, sausage, gelato, and baked goods. You'll also find a selection of ceramics, sculptures, antiques, plus fresh produce, herbs and flowers. Wine lovers will want to partake in tastings of local and regional Italian wines, while other festivities include chef demonstrations, and live music and dancing.
A must-see for all children attending the festival is the participation-based circus performances of Circus Imagination. With a variety of pre-existing circus acts including Tight Rope Walking, and Human Canon Balls, the performers of Circus Imagination will also recruit children from the audience to join them on stage. Children of all ages can dress up as lions, safari explorers, and (of course) clowns and become part of the main attraction while performing in skits and other shows.
Do you like a little friendly competition? The Nevada County Italian Festival has plenty of exciting games for you to enjoy! The Grape Stomping Competition challenges two-person teams to produce the highest volume of grape juice in the allotted time using only their bare feet! The traditional Italian game of Bocce Ball is also celebrated at the festival. Attendees can play for keeps or play for fun with several tournaments as well as a number of opportunities for players to learn the rules of the game at the park’s numerous regulation size Bocce courts. And if you’re looking for a chance to truly celebrate Italy, what better way than to win a trip to Italy valued at $5,000.
So bring your appetite to the Nevada County Italian Festival, Saturday and Sunday September 14-15, 11am to 7pm. Admission is just $10, and children under 12 plus Armed Forces members with Active Duty cards are free.
